Malachi Smith is an accomplished Jamaican writer of poetry and plays, and an actor, performing in his plays and other theater productions and on radio and television. He is a fellow of the University of Miami’s Mitchner Caribbean Writers Institute where he studied poetry under Lorna Goodison and play writing under Fred D’Aguilar.
Appeared at Talking Trees literary Festival on three occasions. Headlined the International Dub-Poetry Festival in Toronto, 20024, the Love-In Festival in Miami with Richie Havens, 20028. Has read in New York, St. Kitts and Nevis, The International Poetry Festival of Colombia, The International Poetry Festival of Nicaragua, The International Poetry Festival of Taiwan, Poetry Africa, South Africa, Polokwane Literary Fair, Limpopo, South Africa, International Poetry Festival of Mexico, Miami International Book Fair, the Louise Bennett-Coverley Reading Festival, Broward Community College, 501 Café, New York, the Honduras International Poetry Festival, and many venues in Jamaica. 2022, presented a masterclass on Dub Poetry at CARICON in Los Angeles. 2022, successfully directed and appeared in the Reggae Musical, Power Game II, at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center.
He is the founder of the annual Jamaica Poets Nomadic College and School Tour.
